Joe Cocker Extravaganza

Presented by the renewable energy provider that is David Sly, drummer of the TinMen, this night of musical wonder is just around the corner…

MAD DOGS: The Full Cocker recreates the huge, urgent sound of Joe Cocker in full flight. This pulsating 18-piece superband band captures the intensity of the incredible 1970 Joe Cocker Mad Dogs & Englishmen concerts, honouring musical director Leon Russell’s incredible Wall of Sound arrangements to surround the greatest rockin’ soul voice of that generation.

Led by singer Steve Brown ahead of a nine-voice choir, the red hot MAD DOGS superband captures the massive sound of Cocker’s finest anthems in all their wild splendour – The Letter, Cry Me A River, Space Captain, Delta Lady, With A Little Help From My Friends and more.

The desire to rekindle the best moments of Joe Cocker’s live performances has long burned within dynamic father-and-son drumming team David and Miles Sly. Pointing to Cocker’s legendary 1970 Mad Dogs & Englishmen as their favourite live album, they found the perfect ally in Adelaide blues stalwart Steve Brown, whose voice authentically revives Cocker’s finest performances.

They first pulled together Mad Dogs: The Full Cocker for the 2018 Adelaide Fringe, playing to a sold-out crowd at The Gov; they returned the following year for a further two capacity performances.

Now, 50 years since Cocker’s mighty performances were released on vinyl, the MAD DOGS are taking their big show to the big stage at Thebarton Theatre, with full concert production.

Featuring many of Adelaide’s finest musicians – including renowned vocalists Jacqui Yeo (Supernova) and Peter White (Lost Woods) – MAD DOGS spans generations yet is united by the passion to proudly revive the enduring legacy of Joe Cocker’s finest songs.

• Tickets for Mad Dogs: The Full Cocker on Saturday 27 November 2021 are now available from TICKETMASTER.COM.AU for $65 (+fees).

Live originals on Bandcamp

SCALA Live at The Wheaty was a fun night and with the recording from the desk we’re mixing the tracks and putting them on Bandcamp.

Black Sun is the first cab off the rank.

You might say it’s not your traditional blues – and you’d be right – but what defines the genre exactly?

If you look at the lyrics it’s dark and powerful (we think).

If you look at the playing it’s got classic blues instrumentation and thanks to a bit of ingenuity, a Philips 1950’s reel to reel microphone, and a 1970’s Boss Distortion pedal the vocals have a quality that you can’t get in the era of pristine digital recordings. It’s analogue through and through. It’s distorted. It’s the blues reimagined and reinterpreted by us.

But enough of the hype get along to our Bandcamp page and have a listen for yourself.

Share if you like.

Next Gig – 30/7/21 – The King’s Head – 357 King William St – Adelaide 5000 – 6.30pm – 9.30 pm

SCALA Set List Preview

Hi there TinMen fans, friends, and family.

Due to popular demand in the sunny and far flung outposts of The TinMen followers we are pleased to provide a preview of the tasty tunes we’ll be serving up at SCALA Live at The Wheaty this week.

Wish us luck and hopefully we’ll see you there.

Some of the songs are so new the ink hasn’t dried from our tears falling on the page as the heartfelt emotions of life, love and loss were poured forth onto the page in inspired emotional gushes of angst.

Luckily we serve these nuggets with a large dose of healthy fun and humour as well – life’s too short after all.

And in other fortunate news just in from our correspondent on the spot Tinny Lewis the Premier of SA says no singing but performers are still allowed to practice their professional and other lines of trade so it looks at this stage as the show will still go on but in these times who knows – You may have to wait till July 30th to see us at The King’s Head Pub from 6:30 to 9:30 if we aren’t so lucky before this week’s gig.

Fingers crossed.
