Live originals on Bandcamp

SCALA Live at The Wheaty was a fun night and with the recording from the desk we’re mixing the tracks and putting them on Bandcamp.

Black Sun is the first cab off the rank.

You might say it’s not your traditional blues – and you’d be right – but what defines the genre exactly?

If you look at the lyrics it’s dark and powerful (we think).

If you look at the playing it’s got classic blues instrumentation and thanks to a bit of ingenuity, a Philips 1950’s reel to reel microphone, and a 1970’s Boss Distortion pedal the vocals have a quality that you can’t get in the era of pristine digital recordings. It’s analogue through and through. It’s distorted. It’s the blues reimagined and reinterpreted by us.

But enough of the hype get along to our Bandcamp page and have a listen for yourself.

Share if you like.

Next Gig – 30/7/21 – The King’s Head – 357 King William St – Adelaide 5000 – 6.30pm – 9.30 pm

SCALA Set List Preview

Hi there TinMen fans, friends, and family.

Due to popular demand in the sunny and far flung outposts of The TinMen followers we are pleased to provide a preview of the tasty tunes we’ll be serving up at SCALA Live at The Wheaty this week.

Wish us luck and hopefully we’ll see you there.

Some of the songs are so new the ink hasn’t dried from our tears falling on the page as the heartfelt emotions of life, love and loss were poured forth onto the page in inspired emotional gushes of angst.

Luckily we serve these nuggets with a large dose of healthy fun and humour as well – life’s too short after all.

And in other fortunate news just in from our correspondent on the spot Tinny Lewis the Premier of SA says no singing but performers are still allowed to practice their professional and other lines of trade so it looks at this stage as the show will still go on but in these times who knows – You may have to wait till July 30th to see us at The King’s Head Pub from 6:30 to 9:30 if we aren’t so lucky before this week’s gig.

Fingers crossed.

SCALA at The Wheaty

The TinMen continue their epic World Tour of Adelaide’s Western Suburbs, with a roaring full-tilt free concert on THURSDAY JULY 1st at 7:30 pm in The Tin Shed at The Wheaty – 39 George St Thebarton. This will be a set of our originals – it’s put on by SCALA – tickets $8 at the door or online (doors open at 7 support act at 7:30 pm The TinMen at 8:30 pm).

Face it. We ain’t travellin’ nowhere, so getting amongst it in our finest local blues dens is the very best option we have – especially when The TinMen whip up a red hot serving of the blues.

The TinMen play dusky blues of a local stripe, where the hot howling breath of Chicago’s south side meets the huff and puff of Adelaide’s suburban toil. Respectful of the great blues harp and guitar masters – Little Walter, Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, T-Bone Walker – TinMen shape the sound to fit comfortably inside a nifty, nimble four-piece combo that shimmies and shakes in all the right places. Our kinda blues, from the Southside o’ Croydon.

Better still, this tour will be the public showcase of a whole batch of new TinMen original songs. Smirkin’ Martin Davies, The TinMen’s erstwhile guitarist, vocalist and gentle man of modest means, spent his lockdown penance wisely, whittlin’ away at fresh tunes and attaching just the right amount of complaining to conjure up a mighty collection of his own blues standards. Proud and defiant TinMen songs – true blue, through and through.

The TinMen World Tour of Adelaide’s Western Suburbs will continue with a gig at The King’s Head Pub, on Friday July 30th – free 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

Then it’s back to The Gov’s Gumbo Room on Thursday August 26 (free) – and back to The Wheatsheaf on Saturday August 28 (free).

Subscribe to our web page or follow us on FaceBook for email updates and notifications. Put a ring around these dates and be a part of the action. Pour yourself a long drink and get ready to stomp your shoes. There’s gonna be a raging blue party goin’ on.

Porch Session

Easter Monday was the occasion for a group of friends of The TinMen to congregate and take part in a musical experience followed by a shared barbecue under the clear sunny skies on the Sly’s porch.

There were various combinations of musical groupings and the resulting tunes are gathered on this page for you to enjoy.

Firstly The TinMen presented what will be the essence of our first set at “Good Time Charlie’s Got The Blues” at Charles Melton Wines on 17/4 at 4:30 pm – as follows:

St James Infirmary
The Locomotion
Stormy Monday Blues
Willie And The Hand Jive
I’m Leaving You
Last Of My Kind
Keep It To Yourself
My Babe
All This Time On My Hands

Then followed a few tunes with The TinMen and guest musicians:

Mixed Up Shook Up Girl
Pride And Joy
Black Sun
Route 66
Chitlins Con Carne
Checkin On My Baby
Hoochie Coochie Man

And finally while the BBQ chefs got to work Dave and his guests kept us entertained with some more sweet tunes:

Fire
Words
To Love Somebody
Who’ll Stop The Rain
Under The Milky Way
Heroes

All in all it was a great time and a good try out for some gentler tunes to kick off an afternoon gig in the Barossa in a couple of weeks. We’d love to hear what you think so please get in touch or share this page with whoever would like to hear it. Thanks.

Tunes from the vaults

Here’s a few examples of The TinMen playing a few classic numbers:

This one can be a dance floor ripper or like we’ve played it here a stripped-back, cruisy, fun, Sunday afternoon toetapper.

Don’t Lie To Me (rehearsal)

And this one is very groovy.

Hoochie Coochie Man (rehearsal)

And a favourite from Chuck Berry a bit loose but such great energy and so much fun to play.

Route 66 (rehearsal)

And for now last, but not least, some exercise and one of our drummer Dave’s faves.

Walkin’ The Dog (rehearsal)

And if you want to listen to demos of our originals on Spotify they are up now.
